Entrance fee, hours and payment

Royal Island Watersports, a Coron operator that sells a private transfer to the spring, says the entrance fee is PHP 300 per head and that guests pay it directly at the ticketing area. Tripadvisor reviews from Dec 2024 ("300 php per adult") and Mar 2025 ("300 pesos each") give the same figure. Philippine Travels, in a guide dated Apr 23, 2026, still lists PHP 200 for adults, PHP 100 for children under 10 and PHP 143 for senior citizens and persons with disabilities with ID. Its adult figure is older than the PHP 300 the operator and recent visitors report, so its other rates may be out of date too. Ask at the gate about child and discount rates.

Rate Amount Source, checked Oct 2026
Adult entrance PHP 300 Royal Island Watersports; reported in Tripadvisor reviews (Dec 2024, Mar 2025)
Older adult figure PHP 200 Reported by Philippine Travels (Apr 2026)
Children under 10 PHP 100 (listed next to the older adult figure) Reported by Philippine Travels (Apr 2026)
Senior citizens and persons with disabilities PHP 143 with ID (listed next to the older adult figure) Reported by Philippine Travels (Apr 2026)

Google Maps marks the spring as cash only and lists no opening hours. Apple Maps lists 8:00 am to 7:00 pm every day. Philippine Travels reports that it is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with the entrance closing at 7:00 pm, so plan to arrive before 7:00 pm either way.

The spring's fee is separate from Coron's municipal environmental fee, which the mayor put at PHP 200 per adult and PHP 150 per minor in Apr 2023 (Brigada News). TravelOnline lists that fee as an exclusion on its town tour, at PHP 200 for foreigners and PHP 150 for Filipinos. All of Palawan's fees are on Palawan fees.

How to get there from Coron town

The owner's site puts the spring a 20 minute tricycle ride from Coron town proper. Philippine Travels and several Tripadvisor reviewers describe a rough, rocky road, and Philippine Travels says the driver waits for you at the entrance:

Tricycle fares are reported, not published, and the two reports above differ, so agree on the price and the waiting time before you leave town. Flights, ferries and the airport van into Coron town are on How to get to Coron, and the ferry from El Nido on El Nido to Coron.

Coron town tours that stop at Maquinit

Coron town tours combine the hot spring with the Mt. Tapyas view deck and stops in town. Three operators publish their versions:

Operator (source, checked Oct 2026) Time Price
Experience Coron Travel & Tours Not listed PHP 800 per person
TravelOnline (joiner) Pickup 3:30 to 4:00 pm PHP 1,106 per person
Grandson Travel and Tours 4 hours, 3:30 to 7:30 pm PHP 700

The stop lists overlap. Experience Coron lists Mt. Tapyas Viewdeck, St. Augustine Church, Lualhati Park, Cashew House, a souvenir shop, Coron Town Plaza and Maquinit Hotspring. TravelOnline lists Lualhati Park, a souvenir shop, Maquinit Hot Spring, a cashew factory, Mt. Tapyas View Deck and Saint Augustine Church. Grandson lists a souvenir shop, Lualhati Park, Mt. Tapyas View Deck, landmarks, a cashew harvest, Maquinit Hot Spring and the town plaza.

TravelOnline says its price includes land transfer and entrance fees and leaves out the environmental fee. Experience Coron and Grandson do not say on these pages whether the spring's entrance fee is included, so ask before you pay. Coron's boat tours, including the Super Ultimate, are compared on Coron island tours.

The water: how hot and how salty

The owner's site says the spring rises through cracks in gray limestone at 41 °C and about 5,115 liters a minute, citing a 1985 survey by Sincioco and Bautista, with no sulfur smell and water salty enough to suggest seawater intrusion. A 2019 study in Philippine Science Letters by researchers at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, based on visits over 12 years, gives the pool water as 38 to 41 °C and 35 to 40 parts per thousand salt. On Aug 7, 2017, the average of nine readings across the three pools was 40.6 °C. The same paper calls Maquinit one of the few saltwater hot springs in the world and one of two of its kind in Southeast Asia.

For comparison, PAGASA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Coron give average daily highs of 30.9 °C in July to 34.1 °C in April, so the pools are hotter than the average daily high in every month. Philippine Travels suggests arriving at about 5:00 pm, and the TravelOnline and Grandson town tours both start at 3:30 pm.

The pools and the mangroves

The 2019 paper describes two semicircular pools of stone and concrete, about 4 and 5 m² with an average depth of 0.91 m, built to collect the hot water where it comes out. A larger third pool of about 80 to 100 m², 1.22 m deep on average, takes their overflow. The owner's site says the land was bought by Erlinda Sandoval Salas-Jovellanos in 1973, that she first enclosed the two strongest outflows as family pools, built the larger pool in the late 1990s, and that the family incorporated as Maquinit Realty and Development Corporation in 2000.

The algae in the pools should not be taken for dirt, the owner's site says, citing a UPLB algae expert, Dr. Milagros Goss. The 2019 paper led by Milagrosa R. Martinez-Goss of UPLB identifies 18 taxa, 11 cyanobacteria and 7 diatoms, in mats attached to the pool rocks. The owner's site also says the mangrove forest around the pools is over a hundred years old and strictly protected, and that showers are not provided because soap, shampoo and conditioner chemicals may harm it. A Dec 2025 Tripadvisor reviewer's tip is to bring a towel.

Food and drink. Reports differ. A Dec 2024 Tripadvisor review says outside food and drink are not allowed and that water is sold for PHP 60, a Jan 2026 review says there was no food or drink for sale, and Philippine Travels suggests bringing snacks. Ask at the gate.

Why it is called Maquinit

Philippine Travels says the name comes from "mainit", the Filipino word for hot. The owner's site and the 2019 paper both spell it Maquinit.

When to go

PAGASA's normals for the Coron station show 2 to 4 rainy days a month from January to April, against 19 to 21 rainy days a month from July to September. January figures are on Palawan in January, and every month on Best time to visit Palawan.
